Quilt

This week we made a quilt to show how we are connected to N.Z. It was fun making the quilt. We had to make a template of our symbol and then trace around it onto fabric. Our symbols had to be simple designs so they were easy to cut out. We chose lovely material and we think our quilt looks AMAZING. What do you think?

Shapes Shapes Everywhere

This week we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. The D stands for dimensional. 2D shapes are flat and 3D shapes are solid. We found shapes in the playground and around the school. We made 2D shapes on the geoboards and 3D shapes with the connect kit. We had to count the faces, vertices and edges on the shapes we made.

We found cylinders in the playground.

Kiran has made a tetrahedron and a cuboid.

An octagon is used for one of the climbing frames.

Eli is very focused on his 3D shape.

Do you know how many faces, vertices and edges these shapes have? Can you name them?

Sophia has made 2D shapes on the geoboard.

Country Posters

Our Oral Language project this week was to research a country or culture that we are interested in. Miss Butel was amazed that no-one decided to research the same country. We all learned a lot of new and interesting facts about a lot of different countries. Pop into Room 15 to view our awesome posters and learn something new.

Corban Estate Arts Center

On Monday we visited the Corban Estate Arts Center as part of our topic on Globalisation. We all had a brilliant time making a Pou Whenua to celebrate our cultural heritage. We had to think of a symbol for our family, guardian and our home. Then we got to mold our pou out of clay. Our teacher Kairava did a great job showing us what to do and we all created something amazing. Take a look below at some of our art work. We can't wait until they have been put in the kiln and we get them back in a few weeks time.
Thank-you to Trudy, Teena and Angela for joining us on the trip.
Waiting to enter the arts center.
Listening carefully about what we are about to do.

First we had to sketch our design.

Assembly

On Friday 22 March the Year 2 children hosted the Meadowbank School Assembly. We all did a great job educating the school about Globalisation, highlighting how New Zealand has been influenced by different countries around the world.
Getting ready to teach the school about different festivals, foods, languages and sports from around the world.

We dressed in clothes to show where in the world our ancestors are from.
