Values Club

Last Friday the Year 2 Values Club spoke about the school motto - Courage, Constancy and Courtesy. Comment below on how you show these values at home and school.

Dog Safety Talk

On Friday Diana came to school to talk to us about being safe around dogs. She brought in her friendly dog Lincoln. He was really really big but spent most of the time relaxing on the ground.

Poetry Recital

Last week we watched the Junior School Poetry Recital. We were very excited that Natan came first equal! Well done to Harry and Senushka who also represented Room 15.

Trip to Owairaka Primary School

Dan and Paula

On Thursday afternoon we went to the Dan and Paula show. Dan told us lots of really funny stories and Paula taught us how to use simple shapes to make amazing pieces of art. We had a great afternoon. Pop into Room 15 and have a look at some of our drawings :)

Mrs Masters' Chickens

Yesterday Mrs Masters brought in 2 of her 5 chickens for us to look at. Their names were Toffee and Stormaggedon. We were allowed to touch them, they were very soft and fluffy. Stormaggedon was a little bit scared and we felt his heartbeat beating really quickly.

Chickens

We are learning about chickens. Mrs Manning sent us a letter asking if the Year 2 children could investigate if Meadowbank School is a good place for chickens to live. We have written reports on chickens and had a special visitor called Martin who answered our questions about owning and caring for chickens. Check back here to follow our chicken journey.

Creativity

We have been learning about creativity. Creativity is using your imagination to make something new. Ideas can come from you or other people. We are creative when we write stories, when we build things, when we do art, when we make shape pictures.

Footsteps Dance

On Monday we started dance lessons. We learnt a dance called Cuban Pete and had a great time learning the different moves. Take a look at the video and see if you can follow along.
We are all looking forward to next Monday when we will learn another dance.

Quilt

This week we made a quilt to show how we are connected to N.Z. It was fun making the quilt. We had to make a template of our symbol and then trace around it onto fabric. Our symbols had to be simple designs so they were easy to cut out. We chose lovely material and we think our quilt looks AMAZING. What do you think?

Shapes Shapes Everywhere

This week we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. The D stands for dimensional. 2D shapes are flat and 3D shapes are solid. We found shapes in the playground and around the school. We made 2D shapes on the geoboards and 3D shapes with the connect kit. We had to count the faces, vertices and edges on the shapes we made.

We found cylinders in the playground.

Kiran has made a tetrahedron and a cuboid.

An octagon is used for one of the climbing frames.

Eli is very focused on his 3D shape.
